Hands Off Our Gorge celebrate how special it is to have a natural gorge in the middle of a city and we love the sense of community that happens easily when we are there. While it has changed since European contact, it remains a wild place with naturally vegetated hills all around, occasional roaring floods, and wildlife reclaiming it at night. It is a sacred place to Aboriginal people and it shares that special feeling with everyone who comes here.
Launceston Cataract Gorge saved from Launceston Skyway proposal! We are absolutely delighted to be able to tell you that the Gorge is saved! On April 16, 2020, the council decided as landowner, not to support the Launceston Skyway proposal. We wish to particularly thank the councillors and council staff for their balanced consideration of the impacts of the proposal, and for their local knowledge and care, awareness of previous consultation documents and professionalism. To our supporters, your signatures and letters really made a difference. We are proud that we all made it clear how much the Gorge matters to us.
