About HOOG

Hands Off Our Gorge (HOOG) is a group of locals who love the Cataract Gorge as it is. The Gorge was bequeathed to the people of Launceston to always be free and a park and we want to keep it unspoiled for the whole community. We aim to protect this natural space from development that degrades its social, cultural or environmental character.

Our committee members are:
Anna Povey, ecologist and botanist, active promoter of sustainable living options
Jo Saunders,  diabetes nurse educator, long-time advocate of the Gorge and its natural heritage
Rocelyn Ives, retired teacher, volunteer attendant and guide at Cataract Gorge
Michael Fox, general practitioner, enthusiastic about recreation as a means to good health

John McCausland, engineer, outdoor sports enthusiast and community volunteer
Lu McGinniss, teacher and tutor, lover of natural landscapes
Anne Leyton-Bennett, retired library technician, freelance writer
Lois Hoffman, retired teacher, walks the Zigzag track nearly every day, loves the Gorge
Paul Throssell, writer on agelessness, life coach and education lecturer, lover of the Gorge's specialness
Caroline Blaxland, ICU nurse, passionate about protecting and enjoying the environment, as a lifestyle.

Thankyou
Agnieszka Sikorska-Meikle for creating and donating our logo.  The Black Peppermint leaf in the foreground acknowledges the significance of this plant to the local Aboriginal custodians of the Gorge and its surrounds.
