Hands Off Our Gorge

Hands Off Our Gorge celebrate how special it is to have a natural gorge in the middle of a city and we love the sense of community that happens easily when we are there.  At the heart of the Stoney Creek Nation, The Gorge has been a gathering place for aboriginal people for thousands of generations*, and it still gives that special feeling of belonging. While it has changed since European contact, it remains a wild place with naturally vegetated hills all around, occasional roaring floods, and wildlife reclaiming it at night.

Hands Off Our Gorge (HOOG) is a group of locals who love the Cataract Gorge as it is. We aim to protect this natural space from development that degrades its social, cultural or environmental character.
